Since June is the most popular month for weddings, I hope brides and grooms out there will consider doing what this couple did. The entire wedding party chose to volunteer at a nursing home during the weekend of their bachelor & bachelorette parties. What an excellent way to start their life together by serving others!
Many years ago, I lived in a small town where nearly everyone had a relative living at the local nursing home. It was common for brides and grooms to stop by after their wedding to visit relatives who weren’t able to attend the ceremony.
All the residents enjoyed this tradition, not just those who knew the couple personally. I still remember how their eyes lit up when they saw the couple coming down the hall. And we heard lots of oohs and aahs over the bride in her beautiful gown and the handsome groom in his tux.
After they left, the couple’s visit always spurred lots of conversation. We heard beautiful tales about romantic proposals, old-time wedding traditions, funny honeymoon mishaps, and advice on how to make a marriage last a lifetime.
Are you planning a wedding for this summer? Please consider stopping by a nursing home to share your special event with the residents. I know you’ll make their day!
