We’re fortunate as volunteers because people are usually very nice to us. They let us know we’re appreciated. But every now and then we run across someone who isn’t so nice.
Perhaps you greet a visitor in the hallway with a cheery “Hello” and a smile, but they look right past you like you’re not even there. Or you offer to help a resident, and he snaps at you. Maybe you ask a staff person a question, and she acts like you’re an annoyance in her busy day.
I’m not saying these responses are okay. But perhaps they would make more sense if we could see inside that person’s heart. Grab some tissues and check out this beautiful video that was produced by the Cleveland Clinic:
