A month has passed since a fire destroyed the nursing home where I volunteered for the past six years. It’s also the nursing home where I worked as an RN for over 20 years.
I’m happy to report that there are plans to rebuild the nursing home; however, this may take one to two years. In the meantime, I’m uncertain about the future of my blog. Most of the ideas for my articles came from my experiences at the nursing home, and I admit that I feel a bit lost now that it’s gone.

Today I’m letting you know what I’ve been up to during these first days of the year. I’ve been going over my blog with a fine-toothed comb and developing a plan for 2020.
This includes reviewing my blog statistics, re-reading your comments and emails, and doing a lot of thinking. I hope a few changes in my blog will help me serve you, my readers, even better in 2020.
On that note, I’ll summarize what you can expect in each of my main blog categories during the coming year. I’ll also share the most popular blog post from each category during 2019.

One goal for my blog is to alert my readers to educational opportunities. So, I’m excited to let you know that the Caregiver Smile Summit is back again for the third year! Whether you’re a family caregiver, healthcare professional, volunteer, or student, I highly recommend this excellent resource.

Thank you so much to everyone who filled out my activity supplies survey! For those of you who missed it, I’ve become concerned with the large number of activity professionals who tell me they spend their own money to buy activity supplies for their residents.
On the one hand, this seems like a kind and generous thing to do. However, it usually happens because of an inadequate activity department budget. I don’t think that’s right.
While the number of responses wasn’t large enough to make this survey statistically significant, I found the results quite intriguing. Today I’ll highlight a few of your answers and then talk about where we can go from here.
