dementia care farms

Dementia Care Farms (also known as Green Care Farms) have been popular in Europe for several years. Today, they’re expanding around the globe.

Originally designed to provide help for people with mental health issues, addiction problems, and children with behavioral concerns, the farms are now expanding to offer support to people living with dementia.

Many of the farms invite residents from traditional nursing care facilities to come out for specialized activities. Residents visit for a couple of hours and enjoy activities such as baking, gardening, or caring for the animals.

How To Be A Salvation Army Bell Ringer

Salvation Army bell ringers

This will be my fifth year as a Salvation Army bell ringer, and I always look forward to the experience. People are so generous and gracious, and this truly becomes a highlight of the Christmas season.

When we think of the Salvation Army, we usually picture people serving meals in a homeless shelter. Yes, they provide 56 million free meals every year, but they do so much more. Here are just a few examples:

  • Provide emergency shelter and transitional housing
  • Assist people dealing with substance abuse
  • Support victims of domestic violence and human trafficking
  • Offer bill payment help for low-income families
  • Assist during natural disasters and provide long-term disaster recovery

retirement homes for pets

It’s a common concern among elderly pet owners. What will happen to my precious pets when I pass away or if I become disabled?  Animal retirement homes are springing up around the country to address this need.

Animals often come to pet retirement homes from elderly owners who can no longer care for them. These animals are often older, too, and they develop health problems of their own. Sometimes the owner moves into a long-term care facility that won’t take their pet. Or perhaps the owner passes away, and nobody will take on the care of an animal.

restaurant fundraisers

A restaurant fundraiser is a fun and simple way to raise money for special projects at your nursing home. Moreover, it’s an excellent way for employees and volunteers to get together and socialize in an informal setting.

Besides helping your facility, this event also benefits restaurants:

  • It brings diners to the restaurant during typically slower times.
  • It allows the restaurant to give back to their community.
  • It introduces new guests to the restaurant. This is especially true of new establishments that are looking for publicity.
