Toward the end of each year, I set aside time to evaluate my blog and set goals for the upcoming year. This morning, I read my blogging goals for 2020. That’s when I realized I could just as well have crumpled them up and thrown them out the window. (I suspect some of you also feel that way about your goals for 2020!)
My year started with a fire that destroyed the nursing home where I volunteered. Then the coronavirus swooped into our country and turned our lives upside down. I started volunteering at another local nursing home, but that ended, too, when they stopped using volunteers in order to limit the number of people entering the building.
Next year also feels uncertain. While I’m confident vaccines will eventually end the pandemic, it’s hard to know when this will become a reality. 2021 could come with its own unexpected set of challenges.
That’s why I decided not to make blogging goals for 2021. However, I want to let you know four ways you can help me make a positive difference in the lives of nursing home residents and staff in the new year.
1. I love it when you leave comments on my blog posts. You have so many creative ideas to add to what I’ve written. Please let me share your ideas with other people around the world who read my blog.
2. Many of you have expertise in areas other than my own. That’s why I welcome guest blog posts. These are examples of two guest articles I’ve shared in the past:
How To Get Mobility Equipment In The Nursing Home
4 Questions To Ask Before You Share Your Music
3. Do you know other people who would enjoy learning more about issues related to nursing homes? Then I hope you’ll share my blog with them so we can inspire as many people as possible.
4. I would love to hear your ideas for topics you would like to see featured on my blog. Please feel free to contact me at: NursingHomeVolunteer@gmail.com
Finally, thank you for sticking with me through 2020. Your encouragement, suggestions, and constructive feedback mean the world to me!
