Have you enjoyed the fundraising ideas I’ve shared over the past year? I hope they make a difference in the lives of your residents by providing money for a few special projects or activities.
As I’ve searched online for fundraisers, I’ve noticed that hospice programs often come up with the most creative ideas. That being said, I know these events can easily be adapted to support nursing homes, too.
Today I’m sharing several unique fundraisers that support hospice programs in other parts of the world. As in the past, I’ve included a link to each organization in case you wish to contact them for more details.
Make A Will
We all realize the importance of creating a will to express our final wishes. However, many people put off this task until it’s too late, often causing extra stress for their survivors.
To help with this issue, several attorneys in the city of Harrogate in the UK waive their fees to draw up basic wills. Clients who already have a will can also choose to have it reviewed and updated. In return, clients donate to St. Michael’s Hospice.
Held every year in April, the 2016 event resulted in over $15,000 in donations to the hospice.
Driven To Give
Lincoln Canada offers a program called Driven To Give that benefits many charities, including Bethell Hospice Foundation. On a specified day, the dealership invites people to come in and test drive a vehicle. There’s no charge to the driver, and the dealership donates $50 to the foundation for each test drive.
The program provides great publicity for the dealership. In addition, it raises awareness of this wonderful organization that provides support for individuals and families facing life-limiting illnesses.
Hot Pursuit
Nine years ago, Hospice Hawaii came up with their own version of the popular TV show “The Amazing Race”. Teams of 2-6 people raise a minimum of $250 to participate.
By solving riddles, answering trivia questions, and completing challenges, each team tries to beat the others in reaching a mystery location on the island of Oahu. Prizes are awarded for the top 3 finishing teams, top fundraiser, best-spirited team, and top student team.
Other activities at the event include food booths, live entertainment, and informational booths about hospice services. There’s also a kids’ area with fun activities like face painting and balloon artists.
Ladies Who Lunch
A group of women in Scotland formed a club called Ladies Who Lunch to benefit a variety of charities, including Ayrshire Hospice. Each month, they get together for a delicious meal at an upscale restaurant. They also enjoy a guest speaker or special entertainment during the luncheon.
Each woman pays an annual fee to belong to the club. In addition, there’s a charge for each meal. Besides making new friends, and enjoying great food along with an entertaining program, the group also makes a significant difference in the lives of patients on hospice care.
Trash Ya Hair
During October, Toowoomba Hospice in Australia encourages people to trash their hair. Schools, businesses, clubs, and individuals use color, mousse, glitter, or even a shaver to come up with wild hairdos. Some also decorate their beards or eyebrows.
Participants raise donations for the hospice, and prizes are awarded for the people who raise the most money. Besides providing good-natured fun out in the community, this event also raises awareness of hospice services.
