Since we all enjoy reading blogs—at least, I think you do since you’re reading my blog—I thought it would be helpful for all of us to share our favorite healthcare blogs. I’ll outline my top five picks, and then I invite you to share yours in the comment section. (Click on the title to go directly to each blog.)
Maria’s Place
If you’re looking for fresh activity ideas for your senior living community, this is the place to go. Anyone can access Maria’s basic website where you’ll find a variety of resources, such as games, printables, craft ideas, and recipes.
You can also register to access the entire site. I highly recommend registering—and it’s free! Maria’s Place also offers budget-friendly paid subscriptions to extra resources, such as craft tutorial videos and craft supply kits.
My Better Nursing Home
Eleanor Feldman Barbera, Ph.D. hosts this excellent blog for anyone involved in a senior living community. A psychologist and the author of The Savvy Resident’s Guide, Dr. El writes about how we can “create long-term care where EVERYONE thrives”.
Recently, many of her articles address issues we face in long-term care during the pandemic. These include staff turnover, exhaustion, staffing levels, and team resilience. Dr. El is also a regular contributor to “McKnight’s Long Term Care News”.
Healthy Workforce Institute
The pandemic brings out the best among healthcare workers. Unfortunately, sometimes it also brings out the worst in us. If your workplace struggles with issues such as bullying, chronic complainers, or toxic employees, you’ll find help on this blog.
Developed by Renee Thompson, DNP, the website offers realistic approaches you can use to improve your work environment. Dr. Thompson also hosts an extensive array of YouTube videos on topics related to creating a healthier workplace.
The Inspiration Nurse
Are you growing tired of reading negative news? Donna Cardillo’s “Motivation Cafe” offers brief, inspirational stories of interest to all of us. Some of her recent topics include generosity, finding your passion, and the importance of a thank-you.
Donna is the author of several books, including Falling Together: How to Find Balance, Joy, and Meaningful Change When Your Life Seems to be Falling Apart.
FreshRN
Kati Kleber, RN helps new nurses make a positive transition into successful nursing careers. If you’re a new grad or know someone who is, the articles and podcasts on Kati’s site will provide excellent support.
Even though I’ve been a nurse for many years, I still enjoy reading Kati’s blog. It helps me keep in touch with what’s going on in the world of acute care and bedside nursing. Kati also helped me get started on my blogging journey through a book she co-authored entitled The Nurse’s Guide To Blogging.
Now it’s your turn! I would love to hear about your favorite healthcare blogs.
