A month has passed since a fire destroyed the nursing home where I volunteered for the past six years. It’s also the nursing home where I worked as an RN for over 20 years.
I’m happy to report that there are plans to rebuild the nursing home; however, this may take one to two years. In the meantime, I’m uncertain about the future of my blog. Most of the ideas for my articles came from my experiences at the nursing home, and I admit that I feel a bit lost now that it’s gone.
With this in mind, I plan to take a break from blogging over the next 40 days. I’ll use this time to consider my options and also to explore new volunteer opportunities.
Even though I won’t be posting new articles or sending out my weekly newsletter, my blog will remain online. You can still access all of my articles from past years. I also plan to check comments and emails twice a week, so please continue to share your thoughts and suggestions.
Thank you for your understanding during this time of transition. I also want to thank everyone who has supported our residents with your encouraging notes and your prayers. Several of you have asked what happened to the residents and employees, and I’ve shared updates in this post.
I’ll see you back here in 40 days!
