The other day, I was scouring the Internet looking for more fundraising ideas to share with you. In the process, I came upon lots of articles about care homes in the UK that raise money on Red Nose Day. Held every two years, this popular event provides money to support a variety of charitable causes in the UK and other parts of the world.
Most of these care homes host traditional fundraising events like bake sales, walks/runs, and raffles. But what struck me was how much fun they create in the process. I was also impressed by the way they get everyone involved in the events including residents, families, frontline staff, and management.
I think there’s a lesson here for all of us. We can raise a lot more money for our special projects when we make our fundraisers entertaining and enjoyable. So, today I want to share several of the special activities the UK care homes created to make raising money a lot more fun for everyone.
- In keeping with the theme of “make your face funny for money”, residents at Notaro Care Homes painted caregivers’ faces.
- At Nunthorpe Oaks Care Home, residents selected a staff member to soak in a bathtub full of baked beans.
- Residents at The Potteries Care Home baked red cakes and painted red-nosed pictures.
- Staff at Cavendish Court entertained residents by wearing their pajamas to work.
- Residents and caregivers at Colten Care Homes joined other people from across the country in an intergenerational Sing A Song event held at 3 pm on Red Nose Day.
- Staff at St. Helen’s Care Home baked and served cupcakes with a cherry on top to represent a red nose.
- Brave caregivers at Meallmore Lodge dyed their hair red.
- Residents at St. George’s Nursing Home donned red noses they created out of paper medication cups, paint, and yarn.
- Staff at Oaklands Care Home dressed up as celebrities from the 1960s, 70s, and 80s.
- Newton Hall held a competition where caregivers and management had to put on as many items of sleepwear as possible in 2 minutes.
- Staff and residents from Chester Court Care Home entertained customers by singing songs at a local supermarket.
- A manager at Newcross Healthcare agreed to have his legs waxed at work when staff reached their fundraising goal.
Now, here’s where I need your input. What do you do at your nursing home to make raising money more fun? Please share your suggestions in the comment section.
