Today I was thinking that it’s been quite a long time since I shared a TED Talk with my readers. For those of you who aren’t familiar with TED Talks, they’re brief presentations given at TED (technology, entertainment, design) conferences.
TED Talks cover just about any topic you can imagine, and they tend to be positive and inspiring. Sometimes when the problems of our world weigh too heavily on my mind, I like to adjust my attitude by watching one of these videos.
Today I’m sharing one of my all-time favorite TED Talks presented by a man named Neil Pasricha. Please listen as he encourages us to watch for those simple, yet awesome moments in life that make us smile.
As we go through our days at the nursing home, it’s so easy to notice the problems and the negative things. But, after watching Neil’s talk, I thought about the awesome moments I’ve witnessed at the nursing home recently:
- One of the little dogs scurrying from door to door looking for residents who’ll feed him treats.
- A child from the children’s center stopping to give hugs to a grandma and grandpa.
- The satisfied chuckle of a resident as he inserted the last piece into a 1000-piece jigsaw puzzle.
- A smiling resident shaking hands and offering thanks to his caregivers as he prepared to go home.
- The warm sun on my face as I sat in the courtyard listening to a resident share a story.
- The delicious scent of fresh-baked oatmeal cookies wafting out of the nursing home kitchen.
- A CNA singing an impromptu version of “You Are My Sunshine” to a resident in the memory care unit.
How about you? What awesome moments have you witnessed at your nursing home recently? Please share them in the comment section!
