As I thought about what to post today, I wanted to share something encouraging and uplifting. So I decided to look through my list of favorite TED Talks, and I believe I found the perfect topic.
For those of you unfamiliar with TED Talks, they’re brief presentations given at TED (technology, entertainment, design) conferences. TED Talks cover just about any topic you can imagine, and they tend to be positive and inspiring.
In today’s talk, Jacqueline Way describes something you’ll want to add to your daily routine over a year. Research shows that this little addition will significantly increase your level of happiness. Yes, really!
What I like best is the fact that you can do this on your own, with your family or friends, as part of an online group, or with your residents. And it doesn’t need to cost a cent!
Please listen to this brief 15-minute Ted Talk, then consider how you can add this principle to your life.
I’ve participated in similar challenges in the past, except for shorter periods. One piece of advice I would offer is to keep it simple. If you feel like you need to do something profound every day, it becomes a burden instead of a joy.
I also encourage you to find a way to keep yourself accountable. Otherwise, there’s the danger of letting this challenge get lost in the busyness of life.
One person told me that she and a friend joined the challenge together. Every evening, they email each other and briefly share what they did for the challenge that day. Besides promoting accountability, they also pick up a lot of creative ideas from one another.
Ready to begin? Check out Jacqueline’s website for more ideas. You can also sign up for her online group; however, that’s not required to participate in this challenge.
I hope you’ll also come back here and share your experiences with my readers!
