How Can I Pray For You?

June 27, 2021 by Diane Leave a Comment

Hands clasped in prayer

Many of you know I attended a Catholic college to earn my nursing degree even though I’m not Catholic. I came out of there with enormous respect for the sisters who devoted their lives to serving God and serving other people.

One day a sister spoke with us about how the nuns find purpose in life when they’re no longer able to work and must enter retirement. She shared about how the retired sisters spend an enormous amount of time in prayer. They pray for the needs of the community, the students, our nation, and the world.

Even though I graduated many years ago, I still receive a postcard from the sisters around Easter time every year. They invite alumni to share prayer requests that are then presented to the retired sisters. It gives me an enormous sense of comfort to know that my needs are being brought before God by this amazing group of women.

I feel like I’m in a similar situation now. Since my cancer diagnosis, I’m temporarily unable to work because of the side effects of my chemotherapy. As a result, I have extra time on my hands, and I’m searching for productive activities that aren’t too exhausting.

While I’m off work, I decided to devote time to pray for my blog readers each day. So, if you have a prayer request, please feel free to post it in the comment section. I would only ask that if you’re posting a request regarding someone else, please don’t include personally identifiable information such as their full name.

Now, don’t get me wrong. I’m not under the impression that I have a special hotline to God because of my illness. But I firmly believe in the power of prayer. I’m also hoping this post will inspire you to read the requests in the comments and pray for each other.

Spending time in prayer for others is something your nursing home residents can do, too. If the circumstances are appropriate, you may wish to suggest this to a resident who searches for a new purpose in life after entering the senior living community.
