Only 3 months remain in our year-long challenge to help our residents do acts of kindness for other people. I would love to hear what you’ve done so far! Please let me know in the comment section.
Now here’s our list for October:
1. Provide supplies so residents can send cards to hospitalized children through the Cardz For Kidz program.
2. Collect used eyeglasses and donate them to the Lions Club for distribution. You can drop off the glasses at optical shops in most communities.
3. Brainstorm how residents can be kind to the environment. This could be as simple as turning off the water while they brush their teeth, or throwing their daily newspaper into the recycle bin instead of the wastebasket.
4. If you don’t already have one, encourage residents to form a hospitality team to welcome newcomers to the nursing home.
5. Do you invite Trick-or-Treaters to your nursing home on Halloween? Be sure to have a supply of alternative treats for kids who shouldn’t have candy.
6. Pass out note cards and invite residents to write positive comments about their caregivers. Give the cards to the employee’s supervisors to deliver.
7. Talk about the concept of forgiveness. Then encourage residents to do an act of kindness for themselves by forgiving someone who hurt them.
What other suggestions can you share with my readers? Please let me know what you’re doing at your senior living community!
