Can you believe we’re down to the last month in our year-long kindness project?! At this point, you have access to 84 acts of kindness that your residents can do for other people.
You may have noticed that I’m posting the list earlier than usual this month. That’s because I know how quickly your holiday calendars fill up, and I don’t want your residents to miss out on these opportunities to care for others.
Be sure to check back in January when I’ll put together a summary of the most popular ideas we’ve shared this year. In the meantime, here’s our list for December:
1. Recruit a group of residents to address Christmas cards for residents who can no longer do this on their own.
2. Avoid contributing to the millions of pounds of holiday wrapping paper that go into landfills each year. Instead, collect the paper from gifts received by residents and use it in craft projects.
3. This is an incredibly busy time of year for people who deliver packages (UPS, FedEx, etc.) Surprise your delivery people with a container of cookies freshly baked by your residents.
4. Residents who like to crochet can make yarn wigs for children undergoing cancer treatment through the Magic Yarn Project. Those who don’t know how to crochet can still help by making flowers or decorating envelopes.
5. For residents who enjoy knitting, provide supplies so they can create Twiddle Mitts. Donate them to a local hospital for patients living with dementia.
6. Choose a day to post a couple of residents at the time clock to thank employees as they leave at the end of their shift. They could also pass out a little treat such as Hershey’s kisses.
7. Provide opportunities for residents to ring the bells for the Salvation Army.
If you know of other acts of kindness I haven’t listed, please share them in the comment section!
