Have you ever experienced a MOOC? Perhaps you’re thinking, “What on earth is a MOOC?”
MOOC stands for Massive Open Online Course. It’s a class that anyone can access from anywhere in the world as long as they have Internet service. Many MOOCs are affiliated with top universities. Besides, they offer high-quality education on an amazing variety of topics.
While most MOOCs are free, there is often an optional fee you can pay if you wish to receive a certificate or college credit for the course. But if you prefer to take a class simply for the fun of learning something new, then you need not pay a cent.
Some of the classes offer ongoing enrollment and you can study at your own pace. More often, schools offer a specific enrollment period and you must complete the course within a few weeks.
I believe it’s crucial to continue our education throughout our lives. Not only does this help us feel better about our work, but it also improves the quality of services we provide for our residents.
You’ll find an enormous list of MOOCs at the Future Learn website. I hope you’ll let your residents know about MOOCs, too. There’s a class on just about any topic you can imagine from “Ancient Rome” to “Beginning Guitar”.
Here’s a sampling of courses recommended to people affiliated with nursing homes. Do you see a class that sounds interesting to you and it’s not currently being offered? That’s not a problem since there’s a spot to put your email address to be notified when they schedule a new class.
