(Updated for 2023)

One of the best ways to find joy in our work is to celebrate each other. With this in mind, I’m putting together a list of special days you can celebrate with your co-workers. Did I miss anyone? If so, please let me know!

(Note that some of these dates vary depending on the source. I’m listing the times that seem most popular.)

How You Can Help Fight Cancer

Update: Ryan finished the Philadelphia Marathon today. Thanks so much to everyone who donated to the American Association for Cancer Research. You helped both Ryan and his team exceed their fundraising goals!

Original Post: Many of you know I’ve been battling metastatic breast cancer since March 2021. (You can read more of my story in the “Cancer Journey” tab.)

In November, my son Ryan will run the Philadelphia Marathon to help raise money for the American Association for Cancer Research. If you’re able, I would love to have you join him by becoming a donor. Please visit Ryan’s marathon page for all the details.

Thank you so much for your support!

Thank you to all of my readers for your patience, as I’ve taken the past few weeks off to adjust to my new chemotherapy routine. During my time of rest and recovery, I enjoyed watching a few episodes of Today on NBC.

You probably know that, in collaboration with Smucker’s, the show recognizes people turning 100 years or older. They also honor couples celebrating 75 or more years together. (If you’re unfamiliar with the program, you can check out this YouTube video for an example.)

Over the past several months, I’ve been sharing my at-home volunteer projects with my readers. These projects have been such a blessing to me since I’m not able to get out of the house a lot during my cancer treatments.

I love to share my projects with you because I know they will be of interest to many of the residents in your senior living communities. And, you might also enjoy doing them as an individual or a family.

Most of this month’s activities involve creating greeting cards. Consider scheduling one or more of these projects for World Card Making Day. It’s coming up on the first Saturday in October, which falls on October 1 in 2022.

Many of you have told me wonderful stories about the wish-granting programs you’ve provided for the residents of your senior living communities. Sadly, I’ve also heard how COVID interfered with your ability to grant wishes over the past couple of years. Now that our communities are opening up again, I hope you’ll begin making plans to grant lots of new wishes.

Here in my home state of North Dakota, we have a program called Cherished Hopes. Sponsored by the Long Term Care Association, they help senior living communities grant wishes to their residents. Funds come from raffles and the sale of Cherished Hope bracelets.
