I was working on a different article for my blog today. Then someone posted this delightful video on LinkedIn, and I knew I had to share it with my readers.

As you consider the residents at the nursing home, do you look forward to growing old? Perhaps not.

When interacting with an older person, the first thing we usually notice is their physical impairments. Certainly, these are common among the elderly.

So you might be surprised to learn that numerous studies indicate older people tend to be happier than young and middle-aged adults.

Serving as a CNA is a tough job, both physically and mentally. I know because I started working as a nursing assistant when I turned 16 and continued throughout nursing school.

Despite the challenges, I loved my job. And I loved the residents whose stories I’ll carry forever in my heart.

So, it frustrates me greatly when I hear people bashing CNAs and other people who work in nursing homes. Granted, there are a few bad apples in every occupation.

However, in my many years of working in long-term care, I’ve discovered this truth: The vast majority of CNAs are compassionate, dedicated caregivers who truly want what’s best for their residents.

Today I was thinking that it’s been quite a long time since I shared a TED Talk with my readers. For those of you who aren’t familiar with TED Talks, they’re brief presentations given at TED (technology, entertainment, design) conferences.

TED Talks cover just about any topic you can imagine, and they tend to be positive and inspiring. Sometimes when the problems of our world weigh too heavily on my mind, I like to adjust my attitude by watching one of these videos.
