Red Santa hat with the words "What's your New Year's resolution?"

A year ago, I felt confident that the pandemic’s end was in sight, and life would soon return to normal. Did you think so, too? But, here we are, entering another new year with COVID looming over our lives.

As I see it, we can respond in one of two ways. We can dread what the new year might bring and simply endure whatever comes our way. Or, we can pull ourselves up by the britches and make 2022 the best year possible.

Many of you know how much I love to collect quotes. I’m also finding them to be very popular among my blog readers.

Check out this quote:

“When you arise in the morning, think of what a precious privilege it is to be alive—to breathe, to think, to enjoy, to love.” (Marcus Aurelius)

A year ago, I would have thought this was a lovely quote. But, otherwise, it wouldn’t have held any special meaning for me. Today I find great beauty in the quote, and here’s why.

How Can I Pray For You?

June 27, 2021 by Diane Leave a Comment

Hands clasped in prayer

Many of you know I attended a Catholic college to earn my nursing degree even though I’m not Catholic. I came out of there with enormous respect for the sisters who devoted their lives to serving God and serving other people.

One day a sister spoke with us about how the nuns find purpose in life when they’re no longer able to work and must enter retirement. She shared about how the retired sisters spend an enormous amount of time in prayer. They pray for the needs of the community, the students, our nation, and the world.

Even though I graduated many years ago, I still receive a postcard from the sisters around Easter time every year. They invite alumni to share prayer requests that are then presented to the retired sisters. It gives me an enormous sense of comfort to know that my needs are being brought before God by this amazing group of women.

Love in old age

There’s something precious and unique about love in old age. In honor of Valentine’s Day, I hope you’ll share these lovely quotes with the residents at your nursing home who have found this special kind of love.

  • Happiness in marriage is a moment by moment choice. A decision to love, forgive, grow and grow old together. (Fawn Weaver)
  • It doesn’t matter how old people are. It matters if they love each other and have fun with each other. (unknown)
