While researching topics for my blog, I’ve come across several fascinating programs meant to improve the lives of older adults. All come from other countries. Today I’ll share three of them with you.

Fureai Kippu

In 1995, Japan came out with a program called Fureai Kippu. Loosely translated, this means “caring relationship ticket”.

The system allows people to earn credits by helping elders in their community. Services involve an enormous variety of tasks, including grocery shopping, accompanying an elder to an appointment, or food preparation in the home.

Has anyone from your senior living community ever broken a Guinness World Record? Today I’m highlighting residents and staff from around the world who have done just that.

(Please note that other individuals or groups may have set new records since these events occurred.)

In 2013, St. John’s House in the UK set a record for the oldest choir in the world. The 13 residents singing in the choir (12 women and 1 man) boasted a combined age of 1180 years.

Back in 2018, I shared a post about nursing homes in Alabama honored for their best practices by the Alabama Nursing Home Association. Today I came across a summary of nursing homes that received honorable mention for their programs. Even though they didn’t win the best practice awards, they’re still winners in my book!

(Please note: Nursing homes developed these programs prior to COVID-19. They may have had to make changes in response to the pandemic. You can click the links to contact each organization for more information.)
