As you volunteer or work in the nursing home, I believe it’s helpful to understand the roles and backgrounds of other people who serve your residents. Perhaps this knowledge will even prompt you to expand your education and take on a new career.

In the past, we’ve looked at the roles of the nursing team, rehab team, social worker, dietician, and pharmacist. Today, we’ll focus on the nursing home administrator.

Our aging population will cause a significant demand for nursing home administrators in the future. The U.S. Bureau of Statistics expects growth in this field to be much greater than average over the next several years.

Last month, I asked my readers to share topics they would like to see addressed on my blog. Several of you said you would like to learn more about dementia. However, I’m not clear what specifically you would like to learn.

Over the past four years, I’ve featured several articles on my blog about dementia. Below you’ll find a list of the most popular posts. I hope you’ll check them out, and if I failed to cover topics of interest to you, please let me know. You can either leave a note in the comment section or email me at NursingHomeVolunteer.com

The other day, I watched a documentary about the history of Texas Roadhouse restaurants. The TV show caught my eye because that’s one of my favorite places to eat.

Sadly, the documentary shared the story of the founder of Texas Roadhouse, Kent Taylor, who died by suicide in March. They related his suicide to a battle with severe tinnitus resulting from COVID-19.

Over the years, I remember working with a couple of residents diagnosed with tinnitus. But I knew little about the condition, and I had no idea how common it is. After doing some research, I believe this will be a helpful topic to share with my readers.

planning my funeral

Don’t worry. I’m not dying. Yet, my recent cancer diagnosis prompted me to think about my mortality.

We’re treating my cancer aggressively, and I plan to be around for a long time. But there’s always the possibility that an unforeseen side effect of chemotherapy could suddenly take my life.

Or I could die of a heart attack, stroke, or some other acute illness unrelated to cancer. And, of course, any of us could die unexpectedly in an accident.

I hope you’ll consider these five reasons you may wish to pre-plan your funeral regardless of your age or health.
