Today we’re looking at Mickey Mouse’s birthday. Would you believe Mickey Mouse is turning 90 on November 18? That’s a good reason to celebrate!

Mickey Mouse’s birthday might sound like an activity for children. However, I know many of your residents will also enjoy celebrating Mickey’s special day.

After all, nearly everyone has at least one fond memory of Mickey Mouse. Perhaps it was a trip to Disneyland, a favorite toy, or a cartoon they enjoyed as a child.

I think America Recycles Day is one of my favorite little-known holidays to celebrate at the nursing home. That’s because it’s not only fun for residents and staff, but it also helps us do something good for our little corner of the world.

America Recycles Day saw it’s beginnings in Texas in 1994 and quickly spread around the country. On this day, we’re encouraged to recycle and to use products made from recycled materials.

Did you enjoy last week’s post about Peanuts Comic Strip Day? Today I’m highlighting another fun and little-known holiday to share with your residents. World Egg Day is celebrated on the second Friday in October, so in 2018 it falls on October 12.

Share egg trivia and jokes

Check out the Chandran’s Poultry website where you’ll find everything you could possibly want to know about eggs. For example, did you know that a mother hen turns her eggs about 50 times a day?

October 2 marks the anniversary of the day Charles M. Schulz’s infamous comic strip first appeared in newspapers in 1950. Peanuts comic strips were translated into 21 languages and featured in 2600 newspapers in 75 countries. So, you’re going to have a difficult time finding a resident who isn’t familiar with the fun characters in this popular comic strip.

Did your residents have fun planning activities for Emma M. Nutt Day? Today we’ll look at another little-known holiday I know you’ll enjoy in September.

If you ask your residents, I’m sure most of them are familiar with the legend of Johnny Appleseed. But, did you know he was a real person? We celebrate his life on September 26, the date he was born in 1774.
