Are you looking for enjoyable activities for residents who spend a lot of time in their rooms? Or, perhaps you have a friend in a nursing home who prefers independent activities. Then you’ll find today’s post helpful.
My daughter knows I’ve been looking for projects to do while I’m at home recovering from the effects of cancer and its treatment side effects. So, this weekend she surprised me with two paint-by-number kits.
When I was a child, my sister and I loved to do paint-by-number. These days, the art has expanded to include a wide variety of kits for people of all ages. Paint-by-number is perfect for people like me who wish to create something beautiful but lack artistic talent.
The kits from my daughter will take many hours to complete, as they are very intricate. That’s okay because I have lots of time on my hands. These complex kits also require good eyes and a steady hand because of the many tiny areas you need to paint.
For people who want less complex paintings that you can finish more quickly, lots of options are available. Here’s just one paint-by-number kit you can find on Amazon. (Click on image for full details.)
If problems with dexterity make it difficult to stay within the lines, I recommend fuzzy coloring posters. The velvet backgrounds are very forgiving if you go outside the lines. Either markers or gel pens work well on these colorful pictures. You can buy them in multi-packs on Amazon:
Have you ever heard of diamond painting? I wasn’t familiar with this increasingly popular craft until one of my daughter’s friends started doing it.
They often describe diamond painting as a combination of paint-by-number and cross-stitch. Using a special applicator, you apply tiny resin diamonds to a pre-coded canvas. The result is a beautiful sparkling picture. Check out this gorgeous example from Amazon:
If you’re looking for art projects for memory care, you’ll want to consider aquapainting. You simply paint water onto card canvases, and vivid pictures emerge. After use, the pictures gradually fade away and you can reuse them multiple times. Learn more about these unique art kits on Amazon:
