nursing home activities for Arbor Day

Spring is in the air, and you’ll want to add Arbor Day to your activity calendar for April. This holiday was first observed in 1872 and is meant to encourage people to plant and care for trees. Arbor Day is celebrated on the last Friday in April, so this year it falls on April 27.

I know your residents will enjoy these activities. Please share your ideas in the comment section, too!

Plant a tree

If you can’t plant a tree outdoors, go ahead and plant one indoors in a large pot. A few varieties that do well indoors are the jade tree, Norfolk island pine, dwarf banana tree, and weeping fig. Then your residents can care for their tree and watch it gradually grow over the years.

The Art of Nursing, A Nurse's Week Event #artofnursing #nursesweek

Wow, I was blown away by your positive responses to the article about MOOCs that I posted earlier this week. Out of more than 125 articles I’ve posted on my blog, only two others received more views and shares. This tells me that ongoing education is a high priority for you, my readers.

As a result, I decided to post an extra article this week and let you know about another excellent educational opportunity that’s coming up in May. Unlike the MOOCs, there is a fee associated with this program. However, I believe it’s worth every dime.

free online classes for healthcare staff

Have you ever experienced a MOOC? Perhaps you’re thinking, “What on earth is a MOOC?”

MOOC stands for Massive Open Online Course. It’s a class that anyone can access from anywhere in the world as long as they have Internet service. Many MOOCs are affiliated with top universities. Besides, they offer high-quality education on an amazing variety of topics.

While most MOOCs are free, there is often an optional fee you can pay if you wish to receive a certificate or college credit for the course. But if you prefer to take a class simply for the fun of learning something new, then you need not pay a cent.

how to ask for donations

Someone just asked you to approach businesses about donating door prizes for an upcoming event at your facility. Are you excited? Or perhaps you would prefer to make an appointment to go to the dentist? Most people feel intimidated by the thought of asking for donations, but it need not be this way.

As I’ve mentioned in previous articles, you usually see better attendance at your fundraising events if you give the attendees something in return. However, you don’t want to spend your precious funds on door prizes and gift baskets. That’s why it’s so essential to solicit these items from outside sources. Today I want to share tips I’ve learned from many years of helping with fundraising events at our nursing home.
