A Great Deal On Gorgeous Flowers

February 5, 2019 by Diane Leave a Comment

One of my blogging goals for this year is to search for good deals on products that I believe will be of interest to my readers. With the approach of Valentine’s Day, I decided to share a terrific deal on my go-to place for ordering flower bouquets for family or friends who live in care homes.

Over the years, we’ve ordered flowers from several different online sites. By far, my favorite is the Bouqs, and here’s why:

  • Their flowers are shipped from eco-friendly, sustainable farms.
  • The Bouqs stand behind their flowers with a Happiness Guarantee: “While we aim to be perfect, flowers are unpredictable by nature, and we aren’t, sadly, 100% perfect (though we’ll keep trying!). Our Happiness Guarantee means we stand behind our product and experience. We want to be sure you’re happy with Bouqs.com and our flowers!”
  • The Bouqs has an “A” rating with the Better Business Bureau.
  • Personally, we’ve always been happy with the flowers we’ve ordered and how long they last.

Feed My Starving Children

Last week, my daughter and I had the opportunity to participate in a mobile packing event for Feed My Starving Children. It proved to be a terrific experience in support of a wonderful cause.

I want to share our experience with you because I believe this would be an excellent volunteer project for a group of employees and/or volunteers from a nursing home or other healthcare community. There’s also the possibility that some of your residents could participate; I’ll talk about that a bit later.

What is Feed My Starving Children?

FMSC is a nonprofit Christian organization that provides nutritious meals to starving people in nearly 70 countries around the world. While they do have permanent meal-packing sites in a few cities, volunteers pack most of the meals at mobile events around the United States.

nursing home fundraising ideas

Your creativity never ends! Just when I think that I can’t possibly come up with another fundraising idea for my monthly post, you come through with even more terrific suggestions.

Today’s ideas come from nursing homes around the United States. As before, I’ve included a link to each facility. This enables you to contact them directly for more details about their projects.

Each November, Wood Glen Court in Texas hosts a cake auction. All proceeds go to support the Alzheimer’s Association.

The facility recruits people who love to bake, and each person creates two cakes—one for tasting and the other for an auction.

Participants also pay an entrance fee. Last year the event raised more than $2700!

GlamourGals: Bringing Beauty To The Lives Of Seniors

Today I’m introducing you to GlamourGals, an organization that creates connections between students and nursing home residents. By providing complimentary manicures and makeovers in senior centers, these volunteers brighten the days of the residents and help alleviate loneliness.

Beginning in 2000, GlamourGals has grown to more than 100 chapters across the United States and in Canada. These student-led organizations also provide valuable leadership opportunities and training for high school and college students.

I’m thrilled that two GlamourGals volunteers, Stephanie Azzopardi and Prianka Devi Koya, graciously offered to share their experiences with my readers. I hope their stories will inspire you to start a GlamourGals chapter in your community!

A Mother And Son Journey Through Dementia

January 26, 2019 by Diane Leave a Comment

I was working on a different article for my blog today. Then someone posted this delightful video on LinkedIn, and I knew I had to share it with my readers.

Through words and photographs, Tony Luciani tells how he and his mamma maintain their relationship during her dementia journey. I hope you’ll take just 14 minutes out of your day to watch this lovely story.

One more note:  On January 30th, 2019, Tony’s mamma will celebrate her 96th birthday! She’ll be thrilled if you send her a card:
