Has anyone from your senior living community ever broken a Guinness World Record? Today I’m highlighting residents and staff from around the world who have done just that.
(Please note that other individuals or groups may have set new records since these events occurred.)
In 2013, St. John’s House in the UK set a record for the oldest choir in the world. The 13 residents singing in the choir (12 women and 1 man) boasted a combined age of 1180 years.
Benchmark Senior Living in Ridgefield, Connecticut, created the longest friendship bracelet in 2016. It measured almost 2167 ft.
In 2013, 40 special people gathered at Regency Heritage Nursing and Rehab Center in Somerset, New Jersey, to break a record. All were at least 100 years old, and they represented the world’s largest gathering of centenarians.
Of course, this article wouldn’t be complete without mentioning bingo. In 2018, Southwind Healthcare in Crowley, Louisiana, set a record for the longest continuous game of bingo. The game lasted for 24 hours.
In 2017, residents of Sanitas Mayores retirement homes in Spain created the largest cardboard mosaic image on a lawn. The mosaic measured just over 12,054 square feet, and the individual squares were hand-painted by 5000 residents.
When Florence Knapp entered the Dock Terrace Nursing Home in 1983, she set a record for having lived in the same residence longer than any other person. She lived in her house in Pennsylvania for 110 years.
In 2021, Azrieli Palace assisted living in Israel set a record for creating the biggest tower of matzah and chocolate spread. Two hundred residents worked together to make the 17.7-foot tower that weighed 22 lbs.
Earlier this year, a resident of Clement Manor Nursing Home in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, shared a world record with her sister and two brothers. With the highest combined age achieved by four siblings, their ages total nearly 384 years.
Residents and staff of Galanos House, a care home in the UK, invited the local community to join them in creating the world’s largest human flower in 2017. The giant poppy was made up of 2609 people.
When Jeanne Louise Calment died in a nursing home in France in 1997, she set a record for longevity. At 122 years plus 164 days, Jeanne reached the greatest authenticated age to which any human has ever lived.
