Today I’m sharing five new fundraising ideas from a variety of healthcare facilities. I think you’ll find that they’re perfect for raising money at your nursing home, too.
As before, I’m including links to the website of each organization. This allows you to contact them directly for additional details.
Antiques Valuation Day
Do you have antiques or collectibles in your home? Are you curious to know their value? Kate’s Home Nursing in England creatively combines a free antique appraisal with a fundraiser for their organization.
The public brings in their family treasures for an appraisal by an antique expert. Appraisals are done at no charge, but donations to Kate’s Home Nursing are encouraged.
Funds raised will support in-home hospice care. Services are provided free of charge, primarily due to fundraising activities such as this one.
Ice Cold Splash For Cash
Okay, these people are very brave. Participants compete against each other to raise money throughout December. The funds help support Wings of Hope Hospice in Michigan.
Then, at high noon on New Year’s Day, donors meet outdoors to see a bucket of ice-cold water dumped on a participant’s head. Last year, this event raised nearly $14,000 for the hospice.
Just thinking about this fundraiser makes me shiver!
Yoga With Heart
A group of women in Florida known as “Women With Heart” host a variety of fundraising activities to help support Volunteers in Medicine. This free clinic provides care to patients who work but have no health insurance.
One activity that caught my eye was an outdoor yoga class. Held last September on the lawn of a clubhouse, the class drew over 100 participants!
I love the idea of an event that includes a health-promoting activity in the beauty of the outdoors. Besides, it provides an opportunity for people to support and learn about an amazing organization.
Dog Show
Each year, Civatas Senior Living and Elan Westpointe Assisted Living & Memory Care in Texas host a dog show. For a small registration fee, dogs strut their stuff and compete for prizes. Categories include Best Kisser, Most Beautiful/Handsome, Best Trick, and Most Ear-resistible Ears.
Besides raising money for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s, they also collect dog toys and treats for a local humane society.
Gingerbread Fundraiser
Crystal Coast Hospice House in North Carolina sponsors an annual Gingerbread Festival. The event offers a wide variety of activities including visits with Santa, a silent auction, music, and concessions.
A highlight of the 3-day event is the gingerbread village. Professionals and amateurs bake their best gingerbread houses and compete for prizes. Attendees vote for their favorite house. Prizes are awarded in several categories: originality, overall appearance, choice and use of material, difficulty of design, and People’s Choice.
Since the holidays are rapidly approaching, I also encourage you to check out these popular Christmas fundraisers from last year. They’re designed to raise money for smaller projects at your nursing home. In addition, they provide fun activities for residents, staff, and visitors.
