I was excited to see a lot of interest in an article I previously posted entitled Creative Fundraising Ideas From Real Nursing Homes. So, this month I decided to share 5 more fundraisers from actual nursing homes.
As in my previous article, I’m including a link to the website for each facility. This allows you to contact them directly for more information about their projects.
It’s Been A Lawn Days Night
I love the title of this fundraiser! Sponsored by Eden Care Communities in Regina, Saskatchewan, this lawn bowling tournament raises money for a variety of programs that benefit elders in Canada.
Participants wear outfits from the ’60s and compete for a variety of prizes. These include best & worst bowler, and best & worst costume. Funds are raised through fees paid by each team of bowlers, as well as through sponsorships.
Designer Handbag Bingo
This unusual form of Bingo is becoming a popular fundraiser across the country, and nursing homes are taking note. Besides providing lots of fun, these events bring in a good deal of money to fund special projects for residents.
The event is similar to regular Bingo, except instead of cash prizes, designer handbags (Coach, Kate Spade, Michael Kors, etc.) are awarded when someone gets a Bingo.
Participants pay a fee to play, and the event often includes other fundraisers, such as a raffle, silent auction, and food/beverage sales.
One important note: Some localities consider Bingo and raffles to be charitable gaming. Be sure to check local and state laws.
These are a few nursing homes I’m aware of that host Designer Handbag Bingo, so please feel free to contact them for advice on how to host a successful event:
Artistic Calendars
Watermark Retirement Communities, with headquarters in Arizona, create gorgeous calendars featuring their residents’ artistic talent. The calendars include photos of paintings, quilts, ceramics, sculptures, and other art forms.
While Watermark generously distributes their calendars free of charge, I also see this as a terrific fundraising opportunity. For a peek at the 2018 calendar, check out their website.
Rocking For Residents
You’ll find this annual event at the Vincentian Communities in the Pittsburgh area. Participants raise pledges in advance and then rock in rocking chairs to raise money for programs benefitting their residents.
Besides rocking, the event also includes entertainment, games, food, and prizes. The nice thing about this event is that nearly anyone can take part. You don’t need to be able to run or ride a bike, as is the case in many sponsored fundraisers.
Father’s Day Car Show
DuBois Nursing Home in Pennsylvania has sponsored this event for over 30 years. Besides raising money, the event provides fun entertainment for residents and their families & friends.
Besides cars, you can also see antique tractors and motorcycles, as well as take a ride on a tractor. A variety of craft, food, and other vendors also set up booths to sell their wares.
If you try any of these fundraising activities at your nursing home, please come back and let me know how it goes!
