If you enjoy volunteering at a nursing home, then you’ll be right at home on this blog. My purpose in creating the blog is to provide a place for nursing home volunteers to share ideas and support each other.
My name is Diane, and my volunteer journey started at age 14 when I became a candy striper at a nursing home. (Are there any other former candy stripers out there?) When I turned 16 I was hired as a nursing assistant at the nursing home, and this confirmed my desire to become an RN.
Since graduating from college I’ve worked in several different types of nursing, but long-term care has always been my favorite. Today I work part-time in corporate wellness. In my free time, I volunteer at the nursing home where I worked as an RN for over 20 years.
I’ve also experienced nursing home life as a family member. My mom, dad, and grandpa all spent time living at a nursing home in the town where I grew up.
I’m the proud mama of two adult children who also volunteered at a nursing home during their teen years. My home is in the beautiful state of North Dakota.
I would love to hear from you, so please feel free to email me: email@example.com
