If you enjoy volunteering at a nursing home, then you’ll be right at home on this blog. My purpose in creating the blog is to provide a place for nursing home volunteers to share ideas and support each other. (If you’re involved in long-term care in another capacity you’re welcome here, too. The more ideas we can share the better!)
My name is Diane Lansing, and my volunteer journey started at age 14 when I became a candy striper at a nursing home. (Are there any other former candy stripers out there?) When I turned 16 I was hired as a nursing assistant at the nursing home, and this confirmed my desire to become an RN.
Since graduating from college I’ve worked in several different types of nursing, but long-term care has always been my favorite. Today I work part-time in corporate wellness. In my free time, I volunteer at the nursing home where I worked as an RN for over 20 years.
I’ve also experienced nursing home life as a family member. My mom, dad, and grandpa all spent time living at a nursing home in the town where I grew up. I’m the proud mama of two adult children who also volunteered at a nursing home during their teen years. My home is in the beautiful state of North Dakota.
