As I sat down to ponder my monthly fundraising article, I wondered if I could come up with enough ideas to write an entire post this time. After all, I’ve already shared over 100 fundraising ideas.
Fortunately, after searching online for a bit I discovered these creative fundraisers that were recently held across the country.
I’ve included contact information for each of these organizations. This enables you to contact them directly for more details. If you know of other unique fundraising ideas, I would love to have you share them in the comment section!
Kiss A Pig
Earlier this month, I shared fundraising ideas that help raise money for holiday activities. Here’s another one that comes from Indiana. Rose Acres Farms hosts an annual event to raise money that benefits the Lutheran Community Home in Seymour. Funds go to purchase Christmas gifts for their residents.
Employees of Rose Acres Farms collect donations and vote for fellow employees to participate in the event. These employees can choose to either kiss a pig or get a pie in the face. (I would choose the pie!)
After purchasing gifts for the residents, employees and their families deliver the gifts to the nursing home. They also entertain the residents by singing Christmas carols.
Old-fashioned Barn Dance
The Avoyelles Council on Aging in Marksville, Louisiana sponsors an annual barn dance. Money raised goes to support a variety of services for area seniors.
Guests pay a fee to attend and are encouraged to dress in Western outfits. The event includes a western-themed buffet dinner, live music, and both live & silent auctions.
I wasn’t able to find a web site for this organization, but you can email them at acoasabrinas@bellsouth.net for more information on how to host your own barn dance.
Walk On The Wild Side
I’ve participated in a dozen Walk To End Alzheimer’s events over the years. Yet, I’ve never seen one quite like this before. In 2019, Ocean Ridge Senior Living in Oregon chose the theme “Walk On The Wild Side” for their event.
Besides humans, participants in the walk included miniature horses, dogs, a ferret, and a variety of amphibians. Some of the humans also chose to dress up in animal costumes.
The event was followed by a Wild West Show featuring the Ocean Ridge Jug Band. It also included refreshments for both people and pets.
Funds were raised through pledges and other donations, as well as a silent auction. Raffle tickets were also sold for a gift basket consisting of items made by Ocean Ridge residents.
Adult Prom
An event in Georgia offers adults an opportunity for a second chance at attending a prom. Sponsored by an organization known as A Night To Remember Foundation, the annual adult prom raises money for several causes. These include the Alzheimer’s Association, as well as local services to aid low-income seniors and those living with dementia.
A unique feature of the adult prom is their prom court. The king and queen are the man and woman who raise the most money through donations. Additional funds come from selling tickets to the event as well as a silent auction. The evening also includes food, a DJ, and a live band.
Now it’s your turn! How do you raise money for special projects at your senior living community?
