The words "Happy New Year" written in multi-colored words.

The past couple of years have been difficult for many people. I don’t know anyone that COVID hasn’t touched, in one way or another. Then there’s the unstable economy, political unrest, and our unique individual challenges. (For me, that means cancer.)

It would be easy to approach the new year with a “bah humbug” attitude, anticipating another discouraging year. However, I’m choosing to believe 2023 will be a much better year. I hope you’ll join me.

To help get us off to a good start, I’m sharing 16 of my favorite quotes about the new year. Please share them with your residents, too!

“A New Year….a fresh, clean start. It’s like having a big white sheet of paper to draw on.” (Bill Watterson)

“New Year is another opportunity of seeing life with a little more caring, compassion, maturity and beauty.” (Amit Ray)

“Approach the New Year with resolve to find the opportunities hidden in each new day.” (Michael Josephson)

“This bright new year is given me to live each day with zest. To daily grow and try to be my highest and my best.” (William Arthur Ward)

“What the new year brings to you will depend a great deal on what you bring to the new year.” (Vern McLellan)

“Hope smiles from the threshold of the year to come, whispering, ‘It will be happier.'” (Alfred Lord Tennyson)

“Enter this new year with a gratitude for this new chance to create your dreams.” (Alvina Celeste)

“In order to be successful in the new year, stay focused, develop a positive attitude, and be passionate with your dreams.” (Bamigboye Olurotime)

“Let our New Year’s resolution be this: We will be there for one another as fellow members of humanity, in the finest sense of the word.” (Goran Persson)

“Tomorrow is the first blank page of a 365-page book. Write a good one.” (Brad Paisley)

“As we begin a new year, let’s discard what was jaded. Let’s put on in its place, the beautiful garments of Faith, Hope and Love.” (Anusha Atukorala)

“Each year’s regrets are envelopes in which messages of hope are found for the new year.” (John R. Dallas)

“The New Year is a painting not yet painted; a path not yet stepped on; a wing not yet taken off. Things haven’t happened as yet. Before the clock strikes twelve, remember that I bless you with the ability to reshape your life.” (Mehmet Murat ildan)

“Take a leap of faith and begin this wondrous new year by believing.” (Sarah Ban Breathnach)

“We spend January 1st walking through our lives, room by room, drawing up a list of work to be done, cracks to be patched. Maybe this year, to balance the list, we ought to walk through the rooms of our lives…not looking for flaws but for potential.” (Ellen Goodman)

“Enter this new year with a gratitude for this new chance to create your dreams.” (Alvina Celeste)
