If you enjoy volunteering at a nursing home, then you’ll be right at home on this blog. My purpose in creating the blog is to provide a place for nursing home volunteers to share ideas and support each other. (If you’re involved in long-term care in another capacity, you’re welcome here, too. The more ideas we can share, the better!)
About Me
My name is Diane Lansing, and my volunteer journey started at age 14. That’s when I became a candy striper at a nursing home. (Are there any other former candy stripers out there?) When I turned 16, I started working as a nursing assistant at the nursing home, and this confirmed my desire to become an RN.
Since graduating from college, I’ve worked in several types of nursing. Long-term care has always been one of my favorites. Most recently, I’ve worked part time as a nurse in corporate wellness. However, I’m now retired because of cancer treatment.
When I started my blog, I was volunteering at a nursing home where I worked as an RN for over 20 years. Sadly, in early 2020, a fire destroyed this place that was so dear to my heart. The nursing home recently reopened, and I look forward to volunteering again when my health allows.
I’ve also experienced nursing home life as a family member. My mom, dad, and grandpa all spent time living in a nursing home in the town where I grew up. I’m the proud mama of two adult children who also volunteered at a nursing home during their teen years. My home is in the beautiful state of North Dakota.
